In Loving Memory of Florian Sadej
Florian Sadej, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and master craftsman, passed away peacefully at the age of 94. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Maria (Nowak); his daughter, Grace Cercone (Bob); his son, Edward (Linda); and his cherished granddaughters, Jennifer Cercone, Gabrielle Sadej, and Brittany Sadej whose love and support brought him comfort throughout his journey. He was blessed with the love of his son-in-law, Bob Cercone, who preceded him in death.
A hard-working, gentle, kind, and thoughtful soul, he touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. As the eldest son of a large family in Poland, Florian faced an early trial with the loss of his father, Jakob, at a young age. Stepping up with maturity beyond his years to help support his mother, Agnes, and his six siblings, he embarked on a path that would shape the rest of his life when he apprenticed under his father's dear friend to learn the trade of carpentry. In 1962, Florian immigrated to the United States, bringing with him a strong work ethic, steadfast faith, and devotion to his family as he built a new life in America. That early apprenticeship had sparked a lifelong passion. Florian loved being a carpenter, eventually serving as a hard-working assistant foreman and taking immense pride in his union membership. His incredible skill and dedication were evident not just in the shop, but in every corner of his own home. A remarkably handy and industrious man, he took great pride in fixing, building, and caring for the home his family shared.
Beyond his craftsmanship, Florian's greatest masterpiece was the love he gave to his family. He was a doting and deeply loving husband, father, and grandfather whose hard-working nature was paired with a quiet, generous spirit. A lifelong Catholic, Florian faithfully attended Mass and always enjoyed tuning in to services broadcast from Poland when attending in person was no longer an option. Throughout his life, he loved to travel and take in new sights. He was especially dazzled by the bright lights of Las Vegas, the turquoise seas of the Caribbean, and the quiet beauty of small towns throughout the Northeast. Florian’s warmth, kindness, and quiet strength will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, on Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Funeral prayer Saturday at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30.
