Floyd L. McKain Jr., of Whitehall, passed peacefully in his sleep and into the arms of the Lord in the early morning hours of Friday, March 27th. Floyd was the beloved husband of 48 years to his high school sweetheart, Carol (Cullen) McKain, his rock, his partner, and the love of his life since they were teenagers. Together, they built something rare and beautiful, and their lifelong commitment stood as a quiet example for everyone fortunate enough to witness it. He was idolized and absolutely adored by his three children: Lauren (Patrick) Barrett, Erinn (Kevin) Rabinowitz, and Steven (Brittany) McKain. His grandchildren, Andrew, Avery, Aiden, Austin, and Aaron, knew him as their biggest sports fan, their golf partner, and their very best friend. There was no one quite like him in their eyes, and there never will be. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd L. McKain Sr. and Rita (Curtis) McKain. Floyd leaves behind his siblings Mary (Charles) Fertelmes and Matt (Sharon) McKain, and brothers-in-law Paul (Debbie) Cullen and Kevin (Phyllis) Cullen, along with beloved nieces and nephews who were a constant source of pride for him. He also leaves behind his cherished Yorkie, Georgie, his devoted fifth child, and his beloved grand-dogs, his boys Kessel and Malkin, whom he adored taking for walks through the neighborhood, stopping to make friends with every dog owner along the way, and Maisie Mae and Stevie Nicks, who held an equally special place in his heart. Floyd spent the majority of his career at HDS Marketing, where he also built a family. In retirement, he looked forward to evenings playing poker with his closest friends and found great joy in the St. Gabe's golf league. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Floyd could always be found courtside at a basketball game, out on the golf course with his grandsons, cheering from the sidelines of a cross-country course, at a track meet, or in the stands of a volleyball game. If there was a game with a ball involved, Floyd was there and he was loving every minute of it. Coaching was one of his greatest passions. He left a lasting impression on many young players during his years coaching basketball at St. Gabe's, and most recently brought that same heart to the CYO team, where he was known and loved as Coach Pappy. Floyd had an exceptionally gentle and accepting way of seeing the world. He always encouraged those around him to look for the good and led by example every single day. Those who spent time with him at family gatherings would often notice him stepping back quietly to take it all in. More than once, with a tear in his eye, he would say how proud he was, how much love he had for his family, and how truly blessed he felt to be surrounded by so many he loved and who loved him in return. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, on Monday & Tuesday, March 30 & 31, 2026 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the SorrowfulVirgin Church at 12:30 p.m.
