Age 89, of Whitehall, PA, went home to God on July 6, 2026. A proud United States Marine Reservist, volunteer firefighter and life member with the Whitehall Fire Company, devoted husband of 67 years to Rita (Drusbasky), proud Daddy to Lisa (Dan) Connell, loving Grandpap to Matt (Lindsey) and Gavin (Katie) Ennis, cherished Papi (great-grandfather) to Lily, Andrew, and Theodore Ennis, and pet parent to Louie, Fred spent his life showing up whenever someone needed a hand. If you had a problem, he was already on his way—probably with “a word” before he fixed it. He was strong-willed, quick-witted, and never short on an opinion. His sense of humor kept people on their toes, especially when they weren't sure if he was kidding. He believed in hard work, helping others without expecting anything in return, but always refusing to participate if any sort of formal game was involved. His family believed he was Benjamin Franklin reincarnated, as he could fix anything by inventing and fabricating a piece that would correct the problem - usually with better performance, efficiency, and convenience than anything you could buy at the store. He leaves behind a legacy of service, loyalty, laughter, and countless lives made better because he was in them. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and probably still getting the last word somehow. Rest in peace, our Hero. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to Whitehall Fire Co., 4400 Clairton Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 or St. Gabriel Church, 5200 Greenridge Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
