January 5, 1926 - February 16, 2014

Bechtold, Fred J.

Age 88, on Sunday, February 16, 2014, of Whitehall, formerly of Penn Hills.

Beloved husband of 65 years to Margaret "Peggy"; loving father of the late Michael (Kathy) and Steve (Christy), Jim (Sue), Nancy (the late Jeff) Cropper, David (Aileen) and Carol (Joe) Shultz; proud grandfather of 17 and great-grandfather of nine; son of the late Rose Bechtold; brother of James (the late Marlene) Bechtold; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Fred was a proud Veteran of U. S. Marines, served in the Pacific during WWII and was a purple heart recipient. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Saturday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of The Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m.

    Fred and Peggy were the best neighbors. Fred was always willing to help when something went wrong at my townhouse. I'll remember Fred as a handyman and gardener, and a friend to my late mother and father.
