Obituary For George Frederick "Fred" Guenther

Age 85, of McKees Rocks, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George “Fred” Guenther, who departed this world on his 85th birthday to be reunited with the love of his life, the late Kathryn Guenther.
Fred was a dedicated husband to Kathryn, his loving wife of 63 years, a devoted father to David Guenther (Amy), and Dianne Ritter (Dennis) and a proud grandfather to Samantha Ferguson (Trey), Alexander Ritter and Elizabeth Guenther.
Fred never wavered in his love for his family or his commitment to living life fully. He chose to embrace life’s opportunities and challenges. Fred supported and enjoyed all of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. He rarely missed a performance, competition or game. Fred picked up golf later in life and as with everything he did, he embraced it with a passion. His greatest passion was spending time at the Yough Lake on his boat with his family and friends, making memories that will never be forgotten. Fred’s experiences were as vast as his love for his family and friends.
Fred was a hardworking man who built a career as an electrician with IBEW Local #5 and spent much of his life working for Giant Eagle. As a lifelong hockey fan he supported Pittsburgh’s original team, the Hornets, and lived through the highs and lows of the Penguins as a one time season ticket holder and later as an usher at the Civic Arena and PPG Paints Arena. Fred was also a lifetime member of the Baldwin Fire Department
Fred’s stories, “Fredisms” and generosity will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Tuesday, June 9,. 2026 at 9:45. followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30 a.m.

God works in mysterious ways. Fred, or "Mister Guenther" to me, was my neighbor from 1971 to 1978. I always thought he was the coolest dad on Deervue; volunteer fireman, boat owner, a swimming pool, furnished basement, lava lamp, etc. He had a great sense of humor that made me laugh a lot. When I visited Pittsburgh in 2016, I had the great experience of reconnecting with him and Mrs. Guenther. They filled me on everything that had happened in my old neighborhood since the 1990s. What a joy it was to see them again. They were the same happy couple I knew from my childhood. Back to my opening, something prompted me to search for Mr Guenther. I'm sad for the news, but happy he and Kathy are together again. God bless them and the Guenther family.

I'm so sorry to hear that Fred passed, but I know that he's together with Kathryn. They were two of the nicest people you would meet! Love & hugs Judy
