Obituary For George R. Wazenegger

Age 82, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Beloved husband of 59 years to Mary (Mackin) Wazenegger; son of the late Charles R. and Anna Marie (Schmieler) Wazenegger; brother of Charles J. (Stephanie Wuenstel); brother-in-law of Kathryn Farrington, Karen (the late Joseph) Matta, Carol (the late Dale) Kleinfelder and the late Margaret Hildenbrand, Thomas (Theresa) Farrington and Dorothy (Edward) Matthews. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and very dear friends.

George was born in Canonsburg and grew up in Mt. Oliver. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Mt. Oliver before proudly enlisting in the United States Navy. Following his discharge, he enrolled at the Ivy School of Professional Art.

After graduating from Ivy, George began a rewarding career as an artist while working for the Joseph Horne Company from 1969 through 1994. During his time there, he served as a visual merchandising manager, and in 1978, he was promoted to assistant director of store planning.

George loved spending time with his nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids, joining them as they played whatever sports they enjoyed. He was an amazing husband and, above all, a best friend. He enriched our lives in countless ways through his kindness, generosity, caring nature, knowledge, laughter, and warm smile. George leaves behind not only wonderful memories, but also the lasting impact of all the love and goodness he brought into our lives.

Arrangements were handled privately through the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. If desired, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212-1694.
