January 7, 1930 - November 3, 2017

Short, Gertrude R. "Trudy", age 87, on Friday, November 3, 2017 of Baldwin Borough. Wife of the late George A. Short, Jr.; mother of George A. (Michele) Short and the late Sandra J. Short; sister of Theodore J. (Eileen) Fischer, the late Elmer (Barbara) Schmidt, Albert (survived by Norma) Fischer, Margaret (Donald) Born, and Miriam (Ed) Perian; grandmother of Jason, Daniel (Fleur), and Steven (Sarah) Short; great-grandmother of Jillian, Emma, Jocelyn, Owen and Persephone Short. Also survived by best friend, Mary Louis Regan. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service on Friday morning in Holy Spirit Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to American Diabetes Association, 100 W. Station Square Drive, Ste. 1900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

    It is with my very deepest of sympathy that I write this. Aunt Gert was more than just an aunt,she was a very good hearted person and an important part of our family. I love her and will miss her. Two weeks ago,while I was still in Pittsburgh,I went to visit her at manor care. I spent several hours talking to her reminiscing of the good old days and how we missed them. I had taken her a couple of slices of my homemade chocolate cake and she wouldn't let the nurse take them. She said these stay with me. Linda had made her some homemade spaghetti and meatballs and she loved when you would bring her food,because the food at the home wasn't so good. I would occasionally visit her on Thursdays on my trip into my sisters. I will always cherish those times. As much as I'll miss her, she's in a better place and at peace. I think uncle George said it's time to come home. She will be missed by all who knew her,especially her family. Family was the most important to her and all of us. She will always hold a place in my heart. Tubby.
