Obituary For Gladys Powell

Powell, Gladys (Moelter), age 92, on the morning of Saturday, January 8, 2022, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Gladys "Topper" was the beloved daughter of the late George and Mabel (Boals) Moelter and wife of 66 years of the late Norman; loving mother to John (Dona), Robert “Bill,” Deborah (Steve), Harry (Kelly) and the late Richard (survived by Debbie Marie). Always loving Grandma to Richard, Jr. (Michelle), Jennifer (Mike), Joseph (Zoey), Steven (Abby), Danielle, Jesse (Maddy), Elizabeth and Lindsey, as well as Great Grandma to Kate and Frankie. Gladys was employed by the Brentwood Borough Police and worked security in Brentwood Park for many years, as well as a crossing guard in the district. She spent her life dedicated to her children and grandchildren, who she always enjoyed spending her free time with. Our family wishes to thank the many staff members at Manor Care-Whitehall, who took such great care of her. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 and Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., where a blessing service will be on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Please send condolences to www.johnfslater.com. The family respectfully requires that all visitors wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

    John, Bill, Deb and Harry, So sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I have so many fond memories of growing up in the neighborhood. I do remember the "wiffle ball" bat that your cousin Von mentioned in his post. She kept all of us Kaufmann Avenue kids in line. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow.     I was blessed to have Mom as my mother in law for over 50 years. She brought joy and love to all. She created beautiful memories for our family. She will live in my heart forever.

    The Bat. The wiffle ball bat. Choice of punishment back in the day. She wold chase us all over the place if we didn't do what we were told. LOL ( it hurt like hell when she connected)
