Age 98, on Thursday, February 20, 2014 of South Hills.

Husband of the late Ottilie M. (Heinzel); father of Reverend Howard G. (Kathy), Jr., Gary (Carol) and Carolyn Russell; grandfather of Kristin (Eric) Rinehart, Meridith Russell, Allison (Matthew) Kindler, Stephanie (Ryan) Sutter, Andrew (Kajal) Russell, John Russell and Paul (Jill) Russell; great-grandfather of Gary, Jacob, Christopher, Rachel, Joshua, Brooks, Seamus, Nathan and Finn. Preceded in death by sisters Betty Goodall, Pearl Russell and Dorothy Geib. Survived by sister Kathryn Carr. Howard was a WWII Navy Veteran, president of Allentown Savings and Loan Association from 1968-1986, a draftsman for Union Switch and Signal Company, and a long-time member of Hilltop United Methodist Church. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, Wednesday from 6-8 p.m and Thursday from 10-11 a.m, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am.
