Age 95 of Baldwin on April 18, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh to the Joseph A. and Mary R (Kozlik) Krieger, Rene was predeceased by her two wonderful husbands, Stanley E. Graham and Thomas D. Sutter, Jr. and by her sister, Jean K. (Robert) McCormick. She is survived by her dear sister, Mary Lou Krieger. Beloved mother of sons: Eric J. (Laurie) Graham, Timothy E. (Michelle) Graham, Mark (Aileen) Sutter, and daughters, Mary Graham (Douglas) Beck, Barbara (Larry Hartman) Bardo, and Diane (Alexandra) Sutter. Irene is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Charlotte Graham, Zachary Graham, Stanley Graham, Prescott (Becca) Sutter, Weston (Laura) Sutter, Andrew (Stephanie) Beck, Amanda Sutter, Elizabeth Beck, Zoe Graham, Adam Sutter and Aiden Beck. She was lucky to also meet her three great-grandchildren, Alden, Finley, and Stella. A loving mother and devoted grandmother, Irene never allowed geography or the time constraints of day-to-day life to keep her from living out her many ambitions and adventures. Rene was a caring mother and grandmother, as well as a lively and creative homemaker, staging elaborate costume parties and multicultural Christmas celebrations, ensuring that her friends and family were exposed to cultures all around the world from her home in Baldwin. When her children were grown, Irene went back to school in her 40s, graduating from California University of PA with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She went on to champion many nonprofit causes and turned her love for décor into a career in Interior Home Design. With her husband Thomas and many beloved friends, Irene traveled to every corner of the world, determined to see her grandparents’ native country Czechoslovakia, the Eiffel Tower, and the Stonehenge. At home, she was an artist, curating every corner of her home, filling it with whimsical detail and color. She was an avid gardener, winning a national award for her beautiful gardens. Remembered by her children and grandchildren as a fierce competitor at any game involving cards, she was particularly serious about Scrabble, and ensured each grandchild had a favorite piece in Monopoly. While she kept herself busy volunteering and coordinating at Saint Wendelin RC Church, Irene devoted herself to ensuring that there was always enough time and love for each member of her family. There was no shortage of “Grammy” time to be found. She will be greatly missed by a family she so helped create. Those who wish to honor Irene may donate to their favorite charity or plant a tree in her honor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 22, at 10:30 AM at Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church, 3198 Schieck St, Pittsburgh, PA 15227. Arrangements were handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227.
