James R. "Mr. V" Vickless, Sr., age 85, lifetime resident of Brentwood, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife, the love of his life, his five sons, and grandchildren, on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Beloved husband of Ruth Vickless for 64 years. Loving father of Jim, Jr. (Joanie), Mike (Lori), Jeff, Rich, and Marty (Stephanie). Cherished grandfather of Jimmy, Nora, Justin (Alexis), Amanda (Cain), Emily (Kevin), Carly, Zach, Darren, Ryan (Tori), Jake, Evan, Maci, Mitchell, Christopher "C.J.", Mackenzie, and the late Andy. Proud great-grandfather of Delilah, Ariella, and Amelia. Son of the late Martin F. and Clara H. Vickless. Brother of the late Clara and Marty (Audrey). Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father who cherished his family. He was deeply committed to his family, community, and country. James served in the United States Army for four years with wonderful memories of his service. He raised his five sons and instilled in them the same love and commitment to family, community, and country. For three decades, James made the Pointview the engine that drove Brentwood and made it a great place to live. While operating the Pointview, Jim was generous to a fault. Every athletic organization, community group, and school group knew that when in need, they could always count on Mr. V to help. In his time operating the Pointview, his generosity, compassion and love for his community touched thousands of people's lives. Individuals in true need would show up and James made sure they had a meal and a room to stay at the Pointview, or in some cases, his home. He might have carried a rough exterior but those who knew him, knew of his kindness and compassion. James had a love for the outdoors and spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, and golfing. He used these activities to strengthen bonds not only with family and friends, but with people experiencing those activities for the first time. James leaves behind a legacy of service, commitment, community, family, and love. His impact will continue to live on in the thousands of lives he helped shape and the impact his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren carry forward. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all whose lives he touched. Friends will be received at the John F. Still wish it was still standing as an Historical Landmark. To the family I offer prayers. You all have an important angel watching over you. Rest in peace for a life we'll lived. Growing up in Brentwood and my continued contact with Jim thru Iron City Brewing, the memories go on and on. All the meals with family(esp.Mom and Dad) enjoying Ruths specials, I will never forget. I deeply regret not being able to share some of these memories with family at the funeral home. Jim was a class guy and a friend to many. His legacy will always live.
