Obituary For Janet M. Cherkes

October 1, 1935 - March 22, 2016

Cherkes, Janet M. Age 80, on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, of Whitehall.

Wife of the late Joseph V. Cherkes; mother of Jennifer L. Cherkes and Joseph W. Cherkes; grandmother of Devon J. Cherkes and Justin Long; fiancee of Al Helgerman; daughter of the late George and Coletta Bright; sister of the late George and Norbert Bright. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Monday, March 28, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:00. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to Alzheimer's Association - Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 .

    Dear Al and all of Janet's family, I only know Janet through brief chats at St. Margaret Church prior to Saturday Mass, but have been praying for her since her first heart episode over a year ago. She always impressed me as a grace-filled, dignified woman of faith. Her love of family and the Steelers was quite evident. My prayers are for Janet's eternal rest and peace and comfort for all those who will miss her. Sincere condolences, Cindy Di Bello
