Obituary For Jean (Nangle) Schessler

At the young age of 91, our beloved mother Jean (Nangle) Schessler passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, April 1, 2024.

Born in Washington, PA, and preceded in death by her beloved husband, the late Thomas Schessler, Jean was the dear mother of Valerie (Pat) Zakowski, Lori Chesney, Robin Schessler, and Terri (Gary) Bodnar; grandmother of Luke (Danielle) and Kaylie (Jon) Zakowski, Erik (Emily) Chesney, Jordan (Alaina) and Reis Englert; great-grandmother of Brayden Hackel, Leo and Nathan Englert. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, many dear friends, and her best dog pal, Frankie.

Short of stature and big of heart, Jean enjoyed hosting Sunday family dinners, raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, listening to Frank Sinatra, watching Chicago PD, spraying herself with perfume, and burning candles.

Friends will be received at John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, April 5, 2024 from 2-8 p.m. A Blessing Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Humane Animal Rescue, 1101 Western Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memorials Processing, Memphis, TN 38105.

We are so sorry, dearest Schesslers. Any time we were in your mom's presence was a treat. She was so funny! She was also my best customer when I worked at the Video Store in what is now the Giant Eagle Shopping plaza in Brentwood. We are praying for all of you. God is now the one benefitting from your mom's warmth and humor. God Bless! Cookie and Tim Lippert

Val and fam! Only in her presence a few times but she definitely was a character. Take solace that she lived a great life but will be greatly missed. May she sleep tight 😴
