Obituary For Jeffrey J. Stearn

October 28, 1949 - October 17, 2018

Jeffrey Joseph Stearn Age 68, of Frederick, MD, was unexpectedly taken from his loved ones on October 17, 2018. He is survived by his children John Stearn, Tim (Christa) Stearn and Diana (Joe) Susan, and his grandchildren Julia, Andrew, Jacob and Annie. Cherished older brother to Christine Matera, Jocelyn (Thomas) Shetter, Patricia (Paul) Clark, Mark Stearn and Nancy Hruska. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and his girlfriend of nearly four years, Carolyn Bell. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Stearn and his brother Joe Stearn. Jeff grew up in Penn Hills, PA where at the age of 14 he was given a guitar by his Dad, which started his lifelong passion for music. He was a bass player in many bands over the years including Mike Lange and the Boogie Express, The Deni Starr Band, and Four on the Floor, and loved to play open-mic nights. Jeff was a faithful servant of God who played in the Praise Team for his church in Frederick. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He worked for DRS Technologies for 32 years and was enjoying his retirement. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Jeff cherished the renewed relationships he had with some of his children and was especially adored by his granddaughter, Annie, who will miss her ??Grandpa Groove' tremendously. To celebrate the life of Jeffrey there will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA, 15227 from 10am-12pm, with a prayer service at 12pm. A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 Church Street Frederick, MD at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, MD.

    My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire family and dear friends of Jeff. I had the pleasure of working with him during his tenure with the Back Beat band. We were also political allies since Day One. Rest in Peace, Jeff. We will never forget you.

    Deepest sympathy to Jeff's family. He was remembered in prayer by the Pittsburgh Compline Choir at Heinz Chapel last Sunday. RIP Jeff.
