Joann Lorraine Walter was born on September 22, 1927, to the late Alma Fox Walter and Joseph Walter of Mt. Washington. Joann graduated from South Hills High School in 1945 and attended Capital University Columbus, OH where she graduated in 1949 with a degree in Pre-primary Education. Joann’s teaching career started in Columbus, OH and continued in Pittsburgh where she taught until 1984. Joann and Jack R. Wilson rekindled their high school friendship and married in August 1951. Joann and Jack shared a passion for travel. They traveled extensively and made many lifelong friends prior to Jack’s death in April 2007. Joann devoted much of her leisure time to maintaining and cultivating her flower garden and involvement in the local garden club. Joann had a deep relationship with Jesus Christ and shared this faith journey during her long-time membership at Baldwin Community United Methodist Church. Joann taught Sunday School, was active in numerous church committees and established a widow’s support ministry after the passing of Jack. Joann is survived by her daughters, Joyce Wilson-Windsor (the late Nelson L. Windsor) and Lorraine W. Cummins (Britt Cummins); granddaughters, Michelle Oliver (Paul Humm) and Dr. Kristina Moon (Dr. Brian Moon); and great grandsons, Liam Humm, Bodhi Moon and Jack Moon. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the service at Jefferson Memorial Park, followed by a lunch at South Hills CountryClub. Thank you to the staff and management of Discovery Commons at Bethel Park for their dedication and commitment to providing quality of life care for Joann since October 2020. An additional thank you to the staff of Bridges Hospice who provided comfort for Joann in her final months.In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joann’s honor to Christ Church at Grove Farm to the Children’s Ministry, 249 Duff Road, Sewickley, PA 15143 in Joann’s name to honor her commitment to children’s education.
