Age 68, on Thursday, October 14, 2021, of Whitehall, grew up in Carrick. Beloved husband of 44 years to Kathy Barry; father of Sean (Carly) Barry, Lindsay (Andrew) Raynes, Jen (Adam) McCool and Ryan Barry; the best Pap of Brayden, Jack, Avery, Grayson, Luke, Tori, Brynn, Austin and Jordan; son of the late William and Monica Barry; brother of Bill (Mickey) Barry, Kevin (Jessica) Barry, Patty Barry, Maureen (Gary) Jacovino, Lynn (Dave) Mingone, and the late Monica (Jake) Ketter and Jimmy Barry. John worked for Pittsburgh Public Schools for 35 years, much of that time as the Director of Technology. He loved the game of golf, traveling, and doing drone work for news stories and real estate. He devoted much of his time to caring for and helping others. His personality lit up every room he walked into and he could bring a smile to anyones face with ease. He was such a joyful, kind, and happy person, always seeing the positive in every situation. He took the best care of his family in every way, and his world was centered around them. He was his grandkids #1 fan and was at every sporting event enthusiastically cheering them on. He was so proud of the family he helped to create. He was and will always be the #1 Husband, Dad and Pap. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday and Monday, October 17 & 18, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:15. To Kathy and your entire family John was special in every way. In all the many family reunions over many years John was the best athlete in the family and he let you know but he was always gracious in winning every time. He had the best smile I've ever seen and he had great compassion for anyone with any challenge in life. I'm sure no one lived a better life and just remember all the time he was here he always made family and friends first. Every time I'll think of John I'll smile With much sympathy Dennis Morgan

I was an acquaintance of John's during our teen years growing up in Carrick. He was a tough SOB with a strong fire and enthusiasm for life. I was fortunate (after 40+ years) to catch up a bit with John at a Pirate game suite night in August. He was bight eyed, engaging and happily content. Condolences and prayers to all John's family and friends. Jim Rogozinski (Rogo), Woodville OH

John had the ability to enter a room, a ball field or wherever and instantly light it up with his smile and personality. My last memory of John was he and Sean attending a suite night with a Carrick theme at the a pirate game in August. John introduced Sean to everyone and was in a great festive mood. RIP John and all the best to his family. Bill Sutton, Tampa FL
