Age 72, on Sunday, September 5, 2021, of Pittsburgh. Loving husband of Kathleen Dean; loving father of Michael (Sherry) Dean, Melanie (Bill) Finnigan, Deanna Niggel and the late Johnny Dean; loving grandfather of Kirstin (George), Seth, Tyler, Jack, Samantha and Sawyer; son of the late John and Catherine Dean; brother of Suzanne (Robert) Chisler and Jeffrey (the late Jocelyn) Dean. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. John was a dedicated member of the Floor Coverers Union for over 50 years. He worked as an installer and instructor. As an instructor, he played a major part in writing the national curriculum for floor coverers. John's list of hobbies to too long to list, but most involved the outdoors. He was not idle until he was diagnosed with ALS. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:45.
