April 18, 1946 - February 26, 2019

Sherry, John Sebastian "Jack" Age 72, of North Strabane, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully after a long illness, on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Jack was born in Homestead on April 18, 1946 to the late Sebastian J. and Margaret (Coyne) Sherry and grew up in Whitehall Borough. He was an alumnus of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin and Baldwin High Schools, the University of Dayton, and Duquesne Law School. Jack also served in the U.S. Army Reserve for four years after earning his J.D. Jack began his career at Travelers, working his way up to managing trial attorney. He spent the majority of his career at CNA, finishing his time there as Assistant Vice-President of Claims Legal Services. Jack then moved onto private practice to return to hands-on trial work. Besides his profession, Jack enjoyed travel, hunting, attending Pittsburgh Steelers games, and spending time with his granddaughters. He loved sharing jokes and stories with good friends; especially from trips to Ireland, Spain, Belgium and South Africa. Jack was known for his quick wit, love of Irish rebel music, fondness for Bombay Sapphire martinis, and unapologetic Catholic and Democratic values. Jack served as a board member and volunteer with many organizations, including as an auditor for South Park Township, President of the Pittsburgh Sportsmen's Luncheon Club and Stonegate Homeowners Association, and Treasurer for American Legion Post 944. He was active with Phi Beta Alpha Fraternity at UD, the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County, the Allegheny and Washington County Bar Associations, South Park Democratic Committee, South Park Lions Club, South Hills Jaycees, Library Sportsmen's Association, and Safari Club International. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Joan (Paulsen); sons Brendan (Jennifer) of Peters, Michael of Wheeling, W.Va., and Conor of Castle Shannon; and granddaughters Leah and Megan. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:00. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Benedict the Abbot Church in Peters at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Allegheny Health Network Transplant Fund, Office of Fund Development, 4818 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224, or German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue PA, Inc., 47 South 14th St., Pittsburgh, PA 15203.

I was very saddened to hear of Jackâ??s passing. I worked for Jack while at CNA in the Michigan office and traveled with his team reviewing offices in our region. He was a wonderful boss, great mentor, and most importantly, a dear friend. I was so happy that Iâ??ve remained in contact with Jack through Facebook and LinkedIn - his opinions and stories always bringing a smile to my face. His love and dedication to his family has always been in the forefront since I met him. I feel that I know you all through his love and stories . Hence my deepest condolences for the loss of your husband, dad, and grandpa. With sympathy , Paula Tryloff

To Jack's family- my thoughts and prayers are with you at this sorrowful time. I only had a couple of matters opposite Jack in court but I appreciated his reasonableness and professionalism in helping to resolve our client's disputes. In recent times, I also enjoyed following his numorous facebook postings, especially those involving Irish wit and heritage-in which he kept his humor although he wasn't feeling well.

3 years of working with Jack from approx 1989-91 showed me that Jack was a great guy, bright and humorous and with a zest for enjoying life, loving his family (at home first but also at work) and doing his best. Jack made a lasting, favorable impression on me. I know that he had a tough few recent years health- wise, but he seemed to keep that Irish spirit glowing and had the spunk to promote his values of justice and fairness against our current political climate and leadership (at the top) filled with corruption and lacking in values. You'll be missed by many Jack. May God hold you in the palm of his hand!

My Prayers are with my Brother Jack, I was Jack's big brother when he pledged PBA, he went thru hell for sure, but turned out to be an awesome member and a great friend. Also, I had the honor to know Jack's parents, very fine people. They always would ask me to keep an eye on Jack at Dayton. Jack was a good friend and I am proud to know both Jack and Joan.. I am sitting in my office looking the PBA paddle that Jack presented to me after he was accepted in PBA. I can speak for all the Brothers of PBA, God Speed Brother Jack, you will always be part of our family and may you rest in Peace! Also, thank you for your service to our Country!

Family of Jack: My brother Joe and I send condolences to all of you. Jack and Joe were buds at St. Gabe's and many times, Jack would be at our house during the 60's watching the news on TV or just "hanging out". Joan, my heart goes out to you. Jack is no longer in pain. Joe wishes he could see all of you, however, he is in hospice at Mercy Hospital. He sends his love and prayers to all of you and may God bless you all!

Jack was a part of the best four years of our lives at the University of Dayton and was in our wedding almost 51 years ago. So blessed to have had his wit, jokes, Irish blarney, political jabs, honesty, and unconditional friendship. Our love and prayers to you Joannie and kids. So glad we had a chance to visit last year. This is hard to deal with. ð???ð??¢. Jim and Chris
