Scullen, John "Patrick", age 72, of Whitehall, formerly of Brentwood on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents John F. and Floreine (Staples) Scullen, a beloved sister and best friend Judith C. Scullen and a brother James Scullen. Survived by sisters Peg Carwile, Sharon Scullen, and Janet (Lawrence) Fitzgerald along with several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the tremendous help and support of Pat's lifelong friend Jeff Werner. Pat attended St. Sylvester School and Church while growing up serving as a choir boy, altar boy and an usher. He then went on to attend Brentwood High School earning 6 varsity letters in football, track and basketball. He was the captain of all three of these sports. He and his father were the first father and son tandem to play football at Brentwood High School in their younger years. Pat graduated from Slippery Rock State College in 1971 earning a B.S. Ed., M.Ed in Health Education from Penn State University and his M.Ed. in Physical Education from the University of Pittsburgh. After he finished his education he taught in the West Jefferson Hills School District for thirty-two and a half years and for two and a half years he taught literature and was the first certified physical education teacher at St. Sylvester School. Throughout his career he touched many students' lives. Pat was a member and past president of Theta Chi Fraternity Zeta Alpha Chapter. He had a love for all sports and was a dedicated PIAA, WPIAL and College Division 1,2 and 3 referee, a basketball and football referee for a total of forty-nine combined years along with FIBA referee working several international games. Pat was an avid weight lifter with a big heart and an enormous capacity for kindness. Always a practical joker trying to make others laugh, and you always knew where you stood with him. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Trinity Parish, St.Sylvester Church on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Please meet at church. Inurnment immediately after at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
