Obituary For John Spatharos

December 5, 1921 - March 19, 2018

Spatharos, John Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, March 19 2018.

John was born December 5, 1921 to Gus and Blanche Spatharos of Burgettstown, PA. He was one of 18 children. He served in the USAF and spent four years stationed in the Pacific at Pt. Morsby, New Guinea. Upon his return he married his high school sweetheart Mildred Conrad (Muggie) and they have been married for 73 years! John is survived by his wife (whom he referred to as an angel on earth), his three children and spouses, Connie Coe, Patty and Barry Gottshall, Johnny and Mary Ann Spatharos, and their extended families. He has six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was referred to as Bup by all the grandchildren and loved them all in his special way. John worked for General Motors, Fisher Body Division, and retired as the plant superintendent of the 3rd shift. He has been retired for 44 years and never once looked for something to occupy his time. There wasn't anything the man couldn't do and he did many things for his family and friends. Fishing was a passion and he definitely satisfied that passion. He and Muggie raised their family in Brentwood Pa. and spent their summers at Pymatuning. At age 80 he and Muggie moved to Tangerine Woods (an over 55 community) in Englewood Fl, to enjoy their golden years, and that they did. All but his last two years were fully functional and he lived life to its fullest. His wish was to spend his last days in his home looking out at the lakes where he caught 2,376 largemouth bass. Yes, he kept track. Muggie, his 2 primary caregivers (Peggy and Donna) his children and friends made sure he was well taken care of and will miss him dearly. We love You Dad! Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Friday, March 23, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 756 Commerce Drive, Venice, FL 34293.
