Age 91, of Bethel Park, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Jack was the loving husband of 67 years to Millie; beloved dad of John (Lisa), Laura (Gregg) Ament, Michael (Sharon), Karen (Dan) Murphy, and Jackie (Scott) Martin: proud grandad of Carly (Jack), Will, Brooke (Luke) Gallaher, Evan (Caroline), Victoria (Andrew), Christopher, Natalie, Andy and Michael; brother of Rita Reh, Bill (Alice), and the late Emily Scherer and Bob. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Jack grew up in Brentwood. He graduated from Duquesne University, and after serving in the United States Air Force, he and his family settled in Bethel Park. He had a successful career in construction, beginning with introducing drywall to Pittsburgh. Proudly in 1989, he and his sons started Sommer Construction Company. Jack was a long time active member of St. Germaine Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening, traveling, history, sports and spending time with friends. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:00. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Germaine Church at 10:00 a.m. The family extends sincere gratitude to of all Jack’s caregivers.
