Dear Aunt Marlene, Mary Beth shared the sad news of Uncle Joe's passing. I wish I could be with you, Karen, Joe, Barbara, Gary, and Patricia today to condole with you all personally. Since I am so far away, I will share three memories that I have. First, I remember your wedding sixty-five years ago and realize that I was either five or six years old. It was the first wedding that I can recall attending. Afterwards, at the reception, I was so excited because Grandpap allowed me to work behind the bar washing glasses. It was a day filled with family, one of hundreds that I was fortunate to share with Grandma and Grandpap, my many aunts, uncles, and cousins within the circle of love that is the Baney family. Among those many times together, I always cherished the gatherings on Laclede Street, especially sitting in or near the kitchen as the men talked of work, sports, and life. Uncle Joe shared so much wisdom at those gatherings that has helped guide me through my life. Finally, I wasn't there to witness it, but I recall you telling mom and your sisters that Uncle Joe had named your Christmas tree. They waited, and then you said that he had named it – Jesus Christ. I normally rise at 6:45, so tomorrow I will join you all in prayer as I awake. With my love to the memory of Uncle Joe and to you all, Peter

Uncle Joe was my godfather and my favorite uncle. When I was growing-up, he was so nice to me and always made me laugh. With the fondest of memories, Donna (Smith) Gillespie.
