August 17, 1942 - January 2, 2019

Abate, Joseph Anthony "Joe", Jr., on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 of Bon Air. Beloved father of Michele Abate (Jeff) Hufnagel and Jason (Melanie) Abate; grandfather of Jacob, Logan and Megan; son of the late Joseph A. Abate, Sr. and Grace (Haller); loving brother of Elaine Payne and Lance (Jill) Abate; uncle of Thomas Abate, Nicole Payne and the late Matthew Abate and Brandon Abate. Joe was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, a retiree of Local Ironworkers #3, and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of his memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
