Age 94, of Whitehall, peacefully went to be with the Lord. Beloved husband of 66 years to the late Carol (Ochtun) Foytick; loving father of Ann (Kevin) Plecenik, Joseph (Sherrie) Foytick and the late Cheryl Barry; brother of Genevieve (Robert) Snyder and the late Irene Foytick; grandfather of Brenna Robb, Briar Barry and four great grandchildren; uncle of Lisa (Ken) Snyder, Roberta (Tony) DePalma and the late Jeffrey Snyder; also survived and will be greatly missed by many cousins, friends and neighbors. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna (Warady) Foytick of Donora, his wife Carol and his daughter Cheryl. Joseph worked summers on the railroad in Donora and then in the Donora Mill as a "pull up". He attended Castner School and Donora High School, followed by California Teachers College where he earned degrees in Industrial Arts Education and Social Studies. He worked as an Industrial Arts teacher in Maryland, Ohio and in the Pittsburgh Public School District. He taught for over 40 years. After he retired, Joseph and his wife devoted their lives to care-giving. They cared for Carol's mother, their next-door neighbor and their daughter Cheryl who had Multiple Sclerosis and stayed with them for over 14 years. Joseph was an avid gardener who loved to cook and can his vegetables, loved to create projects from a variety of materials especially wood and also liked to make wine from rose petals, dandelions and grapes. He loved to learn and leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, friends and his belief in God, which is a true testament to always continue to learn and grow in your abilities and creativity. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Wednesday, January 17, 2024, 3-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Thursday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Joseph's family asks that donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1501 Reedsdale Street, Suite 105, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
