Age 86 of Whitehall, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026.

Beloved husband of the late Carol Frayer Zord; brother to Carol Z. McGrevin of Johns Creek, GA; uncle and great-uncle to six nieces and nephews; son of the late Lois Lyden Zord and the Honorable Joseph V. Zord Jr. Joe graduated from Point Park University with a degree in Communications. His life was deeply rooted in Whitehall. The Zord family were Whitehall residents long before Whitehall became a borough. Early in his career, Joe worked with WQED and eventually joined his father in the Zord Real Estate Agency, but he was most proud of being a volunteer life-long member of the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company. Joe spent many hours fighting fires and protecting the community he cherished. He would regal his family and friends with stories, both serious and funny about his “adventures” as a firefighter. There will be a Celebration of Life Mass offered for Joseph on Thursday, August 6, 2026 in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Joe, should make donations to the Whitehall Fire Company, 4400 Clairton Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
