Obituary For Joy Toperzer

Toperzer, Joy, age 61, on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, of Whitehall.

Sister of John W. Toperzer, Jr..; daughter of the late John and Rosalie (Danyla) Toperzer; stepdaughter of Bette Anderson. Also survived by her Aunt Sally (Mark) Bjerke; cousins Karen Boyd, Kathy Maze, Cheryl Prokop and many others from out of town; friends Liz Hamilton and Jelena Kurtesevic and many others. Joy was an accomplished artist and painter. She particularly enjoyed designing floral arrangements. A hospice volunteer, Joy was devoted to helping others. While she never married, she had many wonderful children through Vacation Bible School and Sunday School at Concordia Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working with the live nativity and Christmas caroling to shut-ins as well. Friends will be received at Concordia Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of her service at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. If desired, family suggests contributions to Concordia Lutheran Church, 3109 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 and favorite animal rescues.

    John, I am so sorry to learn of the death of your sister. With no visitors and limited services, I know this makes it a harder time for you. But, I also know your deep faith will carry you through this difficult time. Just want you to know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    John Joy loved her little brother and was open about what a delight she found you to be (or at least that is what she said when you were not around!). Joy had a talent to find beauty in her surroundings and translate it into her art. We Chess boys did torture her when she was a young pup (maybe 5?) with a speaker we hid behind a ceramic chicken. The chicken would talk to Joyce when she walked by but not talk to anyone else. Come to think of it, I believe Aunt Ann created the chicken. We lost contact when I moved to Virginia in 1981, but would hear updated from about you and her from the cousins. You are always welcome to visit with us in Richmond. We do have a minor league team in the Squirrels; I recognize they will never take the place of the Pirates. Be at peace. Rick

    John I am so sorry to read about the passing of Joy. I have so fond memories. She as you was such a great student. Very Talented and soooo nice. The memories are so postive. I hope she passed without much pain. Last week driving by your family home I thought of you and your Dad. You both are still in my memories. Mr. P
