Obituary For Julie (Emery) McGlaughlin

Age 60, of Brentwood, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022 peacefully surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Pittsburgh on May 1, 1962 to the late Melville and JoAnne (Rufft) Emery. Julie battled appendix cancer for over 3 years with grace, grit, and a smile on her face. On February 11, 1989, Julie married the love of her life, Rob McGlaughlin, and they spent 33 years together laughing, traveling, and enjoying each other's company. She was a loving mother to Annie (Cameron) Maxwell and Sean McGlaughlin whom were two of her favorite accomplishments to date.

She graduated from Brentwood HIgh School in 1980, went on to West Virginia University and eventually graduated from Point Park University in 1995 with a BA in Journalism.

Julie is survived by her siblings: Laurie (Dave) Mackey, Jamie (Robert) Carnegie, Kathleen Kraus, Tom (Mary Beth) Emery and joining her little brother Michael (Bobby) in eternal rest. In addition to her six siblings, she had 16 nieces and nephews that she loved deeply.

Julie loved sporting events, especially tailgating with her family. She was known for asking for the coldest beer you had with a side of pretzels and cheering on her son, Sean, on the football field throughout high school and college. She will be sorely missed this season but will have the best seat in the house.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 2-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held privately at a future date. The family asks that you donate in her name to Drop the Puck on Cancer, 1905 Shelly Drive, Pittsburgh, Pa 15216 in support of Brentwood families affected by this terrible disease.

Rob, I am thinking about lots of old memories with Julie. We had a lot of fun together when we were kids. Sneaking into swimming pools and stealing street signs.... you and the family are very much in my thoughts.

A beautiful woman with strength, bravery, and a powerful will to face adversity with a huge smile and confidence. Julie lived a life only she could create. She faced a challenge with courage and grace, supported by family. Rob, Annie and Sean, at night seek the brightest star as that will be your wife and mom shinning a soft beam upon you as your guide. Irish proverb: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal."

The Emery's and the Arnoni's go way back ..... she was a very dear friend to all of us !!! She constantly called my sister Terri after her accident to try and lift her spirit, it continued even after her diagnosis. I have never witnessed someone fighting the fight against this terrible disease and having the "gratitude attitude" that she had !! She was a loving and caring person that undoubtedly put others first. She will be missed by many and will hopefully continue to put smiles on the faces of all who thinks about her. RIP Julie, we love you ! Bob Arnoni
