Obituary For Karen Ann (Wasick) Rea

Age 73, of Baldwin Boro, was peacefully called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. She is now enjoying the serenity she has sought for the past many years. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Abel, her son-in-law, Michael Abel, and her two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Abel and Brandon Abel. She will also be lovingly missed by her mother, Pearl Wasick, her siblings, John and Betty Wasick, Sue and the late Rick Askins, Michael and Paula Wasick, Kimberly and Dave McNeill, and Rosemarie and Rick Hopkinson, and also several nieces and nephews. We know she has been joyously welcomed into Heaven with open arms and big hugs from her dad, John R. Wasick, her sister, Teresa Hopkinson, her aunt, Audrey Mitzen and her Grandma Wasick, as she loved and missed them everyday with every bit of her heart and soul. Karen taught us to give without expectation, the power of prayer, that patience really is a virtue, that everyone and all beings should be created equal, and that LOVE is what really matters. Funeral services will be private. Interment in St. Josaphat Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please light a candle, say a special prayer for someone or do something kind for another - as these are all things that Karen believed would make the world a better place. Although she is no longer physically present to endure this Earth, her soul and spirit are finally free to watch over us all and to bask in the glory of a world without end. Please join us in taking comfort by knowing that Karen is healthy once again and resting eternally with an everlasting peace. Arrangements by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Karen's family. I have known Karen since St. Henry's, and we journeyed through our high school years together. Such a gentle person who extended nothing but kindness to others. The obituary is a beautiful tribute to Karen. Rest in eternal peace, Karen.

Aunt Pearl and family: I am very sorry for the loss of Karen. We were childhood playmates, partners in laughter and lifelong friends in spirit. Karen had a light in her. She was fun, full of life, and always found a way to make people around her feel good — whether it was through her laughter, her kindness, or her warm, easy presence. Even as we grew older and life pulled us in different directions, I always carried that sense of joy she brought with her. Karen had a light in her. You will always have a special place in my heart. Love, Ruth Ann

My Mom always told us how much fun Aunt Karen was. How shewouldget to stay at her house as a kid. She said no one has as big of a heart as your Aunt Karen. That part of her was what I got to see. It warms my heart knowing they are together again.
