Obituary For Kathleen Loretta Gastan

Age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kathleen lived a life rooted in compassion, service, and unwavering devotion to her family. A registered nurse by profession, Kathleen dedicated her career to caring for others and later served as an administrator at Havencrest Nursing Center in Monongahela Pennsylvania. Her work reflected her gentle strength, leadership, and deep respect for the dignity of every person she served. Nursing was not just her profession-it was her calling. Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Gastan Jr., with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership. She was a devoted mother to her son, Gregory J. Gastan, and daughter-in-law, Lisa, of Maryland. Kathleen found her greatest joy in her role as grandmother to Christian and Chase Gastan, and as “Grandma Kathy” to Anna of Florida, Alex of North Carolina, and Emily of Florida. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and her love for them knew no bounds. She was also a cherished aunt to Daniel, Brittany, and Lauren of Arizona, and Erick and April of Virginia who will remember her warmth, kindness, and gentle guidance. Kathleen will be remembered for her caring heart, quiet strength, and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, both personally and professionally. There will be no public visitation. She will be laid to rest with her husband at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements are entrusted to John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. Kathleen will be deeply missed and forever loved. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice.

My sympathy to your whole family. Kathy was my boss/ administrator who I worked with for many years. As a nurse also, I worked in different capacities at Havencrest. In each position I was able learn from her. She cared deeply for all the staff as well as the residents there. I will never forget her ❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss! She was a wonderful mom and Grandma. May your memories sustain you through your grief. Although her loss is very sad, I smile a bit, knowing she is together again, with Joe.

She so often spoke of her beautiful family with great love and pride. She made an impact on our little piece of the world and will never be forgotten.
