Obituary For Kenneth Duttine

Kenneth Duttine Of Bethel Park, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2021 from cancer. He was born on February 14, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances "Francie" (Smithyman) Duttine, and children, Kelly Rose (James) McCann and Adam Duttine. He was the proud Pappy to LJ and Declan McCann, who he loved more than life itself. He is also survived by his siblings Tom Duttine and Joyce (Steve) Arnold, and many in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Goldie (Simon) Duttine. Ken was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 95. He loved his family, cheering on his son then grandsons playing sports, gardening with the Boyce Road Gardeners, all things Harry Potter, travel (especially annual Fall foliage trips) and Penguins Hockey. He also enjoyed feeding everyone on birthdays and holidays with homemade dishes from his Grandmother’s and Mother’s recipes. He made the best pumpkin pie in the world. We will miss him every day. Family and friends are welcome to his viewing Sunday, September 12, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc. 4201 Brownsville Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15227. Funeral prayers will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. Ken's life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Valentine Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Due to Ken’s love of celebrations, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Beverly’s Birthdays, a Pittsburgh nonprofit organization that provides birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness and for families in-need.     I stumbled upon this sad news just now. Ken and I attended elementary and high school together and then he somehow recognized me in a store maybe 2018-2019. Not sure, but he was always the friendly, helpful one. Lots of fond memories. RIP my friend. - Judy D'Agostino

    Ken was a friend at SHHS and later, we and our families were members of Whitehall Swim Club. I always looked forward to sitting with Ken poolside and reminiscing. I always felt better after talking to Ken because he was such a happy and pleasant guy. I'm very sorry for your loss.
