Obituary For Kenneth R. Bauer

Age 79, peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026 of Charlotte, N.C. formerly of Brentwood.

Beloved husband of Margaret Clifford (Woodward); former spouse of Connie Grundmeyer; loving dad of Michael (Liz) Bauer; proud grandpa of Wesley, Gabriela, Nathan and Louis; brother of Barbara (the late Robert) George and the late Jeannie (Kenneth) Boyd. Also will be missed by nieces, nephews, cousins and his North Carolina family and friends. An avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports, Ken also followed his alma maters Youngstown State and Pitt religiously. If you knew Ken, you knew his favorite athletes were Maz and Clemente. Following in his father's footsteps, he took over as owner of F.J. Bauer Jewelry company that resided in the Clark building in downtown Pittsburgh. Later in life he rekindled his original passion and went back to teaching. He taught elementary school in Hickory and Charlotte, North Carolina for over 20 years, earning several teaching awards. Kenny valued and took pride in having the best friends from Brentwood, Youngstown, and Hickory. Many friendships lasted over 70 years. His retelling of Pirates baseball and YSU frat parties will surely be missed.

As per Ken's wishes, visitation and services will be held privately. In memory of Ken and his love for Brentwood, donations can be made to www.dropthepuckoncancer.com

Sympathies to the Bauer family. I am good friends with Ken's son, Mike and only have vague memories of meeting him 20 plus years ago but recall a very warm person that cared very much for his son and family. Rest in peace Ken.

My sympathy to Mike and family. Ken and I were best of cousins and our Fathers were the best of brothers. Ken would always talk about how blessed we were to have the values instilled in us by our wonderful parents. Love to all Cousin Jimmy Bauer

Here in Charlotte, NC, we didn't know Ken for as long as his friends from Brentwood did, but we also had some memorable times, especially on our couples trips to Kiawah Island. He was a very good man. He once gifted me with a photo of my sister's house in Brentwood. He loved all of you guys from his home town, I know you will keep his memory alive. Pat & John Katko

Kenny Bauer is a household name in our family. Three generations of Saia and McCarthy family members know the great smile, laughter, stories and visits which he brought to every encounter through the decades. Kenny was a lifetime friend, In turn, so many of his friends followed along, staying in touch, wherever he went. We will all miss the opportunities to share times with Mr. Bauer in this life. Hopefully he is kidding with those we've lost already in Heaven.

Unfortunately, I didn't know Kenny well in our youth. But, at our high school reunions, Kenny would greet me with a big smile and some heart-warming words. We lost a kind soul. Joe Zmuda

I met Kenny at the Comet Grill in Charlotte, during my too often regular visits, It was always my pleasure to sit and discuss sports or teaching with him. We all knew it would be a good time when he was there. He was loved for his knowledge of sports, stories of his teaching days and friendship to everyone. Don and Anne James

We go back a few years Kenny...we kinda grew up together actually ...age 16.   You came into my life with your  "crew" of friends, who enjoyed your easy going demeanor, your laughter and kindness and your softball skills! Then you became a wonderful Dad for our Michael and then a wonderful teacher for so many other sons and daughters. Grateful for knowing you and sharing so many happy times together. Maybe you and God can come up with a few pointers for your beloved Pittsburgh Pirates...where are those beautiful Forbes Field chairs ? Connie

My condolences to Ken's son and his sisters and their families. He was loved by his students at Icard Elementary. We took a road trip to Youngstown and Pittsburgh one year because he was so proud of his college and loved his hometown and all of his friends we met along the way loved Ken too. When he moved his Mom to Spring Arbor Memory Care we'd visit her on Sundays. She would light up when she saw Ken. He was a good son and great friend.
