Age 64, of Whitehall, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Beloved husband of 38 years to Cindy (Nelson) Barrett; son of the late James H. Barrett, Sr. and Magdaline "Madge" Shevlin; son-in-law of the late Charles H. Jr. and Lillian Nelson; brother of James "Red" (Belva) Barrett, Joyce "Joy" (Rob Jones) Kitay Jones; Also survived by nieces, nephews and their families. Kevin worked at Port Authority for 30 years. He started his career at the South Hills Rail Center, and held various positions including engine overhaul mechanic, before finishing his career as a machinist at the Manchester shop. Kevin was a 35 year member of the Amalgamated Transit Union where he served on the executive board as Vice President of Local 85 for over 20 years. Following his retirement, Kevin remained active and involved with the Amalgamated Transit Union. He was a fighter and a loyal Local 85 member. He often loved a round of golf with his ATU brothers & friends. He had a gift for singing and often shared his voice at church & union events, as well as karaoke with friends. Kevin had a passion for riding Harleys. Over the years he and his wife Cindy took many trips around the country on their motorcycle. Route 66 and a cross country trip from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean were among their favorites. He was the leader of Bibles and Brews for 10 years and long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Brentwood. Kevin’s kind heart, sense of humor and friendship will be dearly missed by all. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A closing prayer will be held at 7:30 pm. A celebration of life will be lovingly held and announced at a later date.
