Obituary For Leona S. (Goins) Denham

Denham, Leona S. (Goins), age 76, formerly of Hempstead, NY and Stroudsburg, PA, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, July 4, 2024. Beloved mother of Justin Lawrence (Meghann) Denham and the late Charles "Larry" McKay; loving grandma of Avery and Xavier Denham; daughter of the late Walter and Irene Goins; sister of Irene "Betty" Hylton, Thomasteen "Tina" Goins and the late Dorothy Goins, Frances Goins, Walter "Bobby" Goins, Edward "Joe" Goins and Frederick "Richard" Goins. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Leona was a Registered Nurse and worked at Long Island Jewish Hospital for multiple decades. As a single mother, her main focus was providing the best life for her and her son. There will be no visitation in Pittsburgh. Friends will be received at Burnett Funeral Home, 456 S. Franklin Street, Hempstead, NY 11550, 516-489-4492, for a Memorial Service on Wednesday, July 17 at 5:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570, 516-766-0205, on Thursday, July 18 at 9:45 a.m. followed by the burial in St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735, 631-249-8700, at 11:30 a.m.

    So sorry to hear of Leona's passing. We met as nurses at LIJ and worked together until she changed specialty and I left for the corporate home care and then the health insurance world. We then lost touch. Leona was a great nurse and an even more fabulous person and friend.

    Sorry to hear of Leona's passing. She was a good friend and fellow Red Hatter. We had many great times in Labar Village in Stroudsburg. May she test in peace. Clair Oneil
