I have known Mrs. VanAntwerp since I was a kid, for over 60 years! It wasn't always a pleasant relationship. She lived next to a large yard where we loved to play baseball at, and home plate was right on the boarder of her property. On a regular basis, Mike Mountain, Andy Reid, Tom Baldesberger, Ray and Randy Georges and I would gather there to play ball. She would scold us saying we were too loud, but never gave a reason why that was bothering her so much. Then, whenever we would have a foul tip into her yard, she would come out and take our ball! We pretty much hated her! Years later, when my family moved back to the Gardenville house after my dad passed away, we would attend the Baldwin Community United Methodist Church. As things turned out, Lois was ahead of the acolyte program, and both my daughter became service acolytes. At first, I was like...of all people, ball stealer and nasty person. But, as my daughters and I got to know her, none of that was true! In fact, between 2003 and now, I got to know Lois very well. She could be a little stubborn and inflexible at times, but also was a kind, caring, decisive person with a unique personality. Both of my daughters got to know her and appreciated how meticulous she was in mentoring them and yet still had a great sense of humor. She really liked to be appreciated, and would return that appreciation tenfold! We will miss Lois dearly! Luckily, I had the joy of taking her up to Saegertown United Methodist Church to meet up with one of our past pastors from BCUMC who we both are very good friends with, Jeff St. Clair, for her 90th birthday this past year. She had a blast and no one would have known she was 90!! I also took her to her old house on Gardenville and the field from which she stole our balls, only to find out that she was trying to teach us a lesson because we would not listen to her when she asked us to be quiet and to respect her wishes. What she never told us, it's because her husband would work late shift and would be trying to sleep. She removed the balls (she was as fast as a cat) knowing we wouldn't be able to play any more (we never had more than one or two balls to play with) that day. I did ask her at that moment that I'd like her to return all those balls back to us...she whole hardily laughed! Love Ya Lois, try not to tease me too much from heaven/ Wayne Hall
