Cunningham, Lois Emmel Age 85, died suddenly on January 28, 2015.

Lois Cunningham, a woman who got great joy and satisfaction from being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Left to grieve, her husband of 65 years, George, daughters Amy (James) Ekmann and Paula Kelly, grandchildren Joshua and Patrick Kelly and Katrina Ekmann, and a small black mixed-breed dog named Fergus. Born in, and raised in Carrick, the only child of Paul and Alberta Emmel, after marrying, Lois lived in Whitehall and worked for over 25 years at the Whitehall Public Library where she was known and loved by many. Always attractive and stylish, she took immense joy in reading, cooking, and playing bridge. However nothing brought her more joy than being in the company of her beloved family and pets. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, Monday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be private. If desired, family suggests contributions to an animal welfare organization of one's choice.

Lois was one of the most remarkable women I've ever known--she enjoyed life to the fullest and left a lasting impression on anyone who met her. I feel so privileged to have worked along side her at the Whitehall Library. We always kept in touch with Christmas cards for which I am most grateful. She was such an accomplished person in whatever she chose to do. She did it all: gourmet cook, voracious reader, dog whisperer; all the while, doing everything with great style and elan. What a wonderful friend.

I remember Lois playing the auto harp on her front lawn. She was a lovely lady. Carolyn Spagnolo ( former neighbor)

I truly loved Lois and admired her greatly. She was the epitome of CLASS - She often called me GEORGE by mistake as the beginnings of our names were similar. We laughed, cried and shared so much at times. She was so kind and cared for people VERY much!! May God Bless those who mourn for the fabulous woman!! .

Paula, You, your dad and the rest of your family have my deepest sympathy. Ever since I moved out of the area, your mother and I kept in touch with Christmas cards and notes, always sharing news about our beloved furkids. I was fortunate to see her the last several times that I visited Pittsburgh; in fact, we retired library ladies has breakfast together last spring and she was as vibrant and delightful as ever. I could never forget your mother's warmth, her wit and engaging manner, her joie de vivre. She was truly a remarkable lady. Blessings of peace and comfort to you and your family. â?¥Peg
