Obituary For Lorraine Recktenwald

Lorraine Recktenwald, age 81, passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, of Pleasant Hills.

Wife of the late Francis Recktenwald; mother of Joetta (Jim) Royal, Amy Barna and Matthew (Heather) Trainor; stepmother of Rick (Janet) Recktenwald, Mike (Kim) Recktenwald, Mary Kay (Mark) Stiefvater and Mark (Michelle) Recktenwald; grandmother of 19; great-grandmother of 2; daughter of the late Daniel and Frances Davic; sister of the late Dan (Karen) Davic and Marylea (Ed) Hartman. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Throughout her life, Lorraine had many roles but none were more important than the role she played as a wife, mother, and Nana. She was a faithful employee of the Pennsylvania American Water Company for many years where colleagues quickly became friends with her lighthearted personality. Later, she worked as a school crossing guard and enjoyed greeting children as they started their days. Whether at work or at home, Lorraine approached life with a great sense of humor, intelligence, and compassion for others. In her free time she could be spotted walking South Park, visiting craft shows, and attending the important life events of her numerous grandchildren. She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and never passed up an opportunity to watch the Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates. In her later years, Lorraine was a focal point in her memory care unit. She could often be seen dancing, crafting, and chatting with other residents. Above all, Lorraine was a woman of great faith, and we are at peace knowing she is in the arms of the Lord.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, October 11, 2026 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 2835 E. Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203. Please send condolences to www.johnfslater.com
