Obituary For Louis B. Wehar

Age 93, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, of Whitehall.

Beloved husband of the late Marlene Cambest Wehar; loving father and best friend of Louis B., Jr.; loving father of Margaret (David) Yakin; grandfather of Caroline Yakin and Andrew Yakin; brother of the late Frank Jr., Joseph, Andrew, Lawrence, Agnes (Lewandowski), Jacob, Rita (Paul), and Robert. Louis was born and raised in the Mollenauer Mine 3 Section of Bethel Park and attended St. Anne School in Castle Shannon. He was a Korean War Veteran serving two years in the United States Army. After the war was ended, he finished his time in the Army as a Military Police guard of the first hydrogen bomb and witnessed its detonation in the South Pacific. Louis was a 68 year member of both Carpenters Union Local 142 Pittsburgh and American Legion Post 490 Castle Shannon. He worked a significant part of his career as a Superintendent for both Campbell Ellsworth Inc. and Mellon Stuart Company. He worked on many buildings in Allegheny County, most notably Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Whitehall, St. Louise de Marillac Roman Catholic Church in Upper St. Clair, La Roche University Zappala Campus Center in McCandless Township, Fifth Avenue Place Office Tower in downtown Pittsburgh and the new Allegheny County Jail. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 1-7 p.m. Rosary service at 3 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Thursday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul of the Cross Parish at St. Anne Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the St. Paul of the Cross Parish, Forward and Hope Campaign, 400 Hoodridge Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15234.
