Of Whitehall, age 98, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026 with her family at her side.

She was born in the former Soviet Union to Trochym and Tina Skrebets on January 12, 1928. She immigrated to the United States in 1949 with her husband Alex and her young son George. The family eventually settled in South Side, where Alex found work at J&L Steel. Luba really enjoyed working, first at Dudt Bakery, then at Armour Meat, and finally at Shop 'n Save. For many years, she would spend Thursday mornings helping to make pierogies at her South Side church, St. Vladimir's. What Luba enjoyed most of all was spending time with her family and her many friends. She was very charismatic, and made friends easily. If you met Luba, you became her friend.

Luba was predeceased by her parents, her husband Alex Hawryluk, her second husband Harry Kunkler, and her son Nick Hawryluk. She is survived by her sons George (Jennifer) Havriluk and Walter (Laurie) Hawryluk. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ali (Bob) Palmer, Jordana Brondo, Dimitra (Greg) Musick, Anton Havriluk and Victoria Havriluk, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Luba lived a long and full life, was deeply loved, and will be sorely missed.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 from 2-7 p.m. Luba's priest, Father John, will perform a Parastas on Tuesday evening from 6:30-7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 in the funeral home Chapel at 10:00 a.m., after which we will proceed to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, 5655 Irishtown Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Luba's memory to her beloved church, St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1810 Sidney Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
