Trombetta, Luigi

Age 93, of Whitehall, originally from Dormont.

Born in Calabria region of Italy on August 5, 1920. Left this earth for paradise on Saturday, February 1, 2014 to join his parents Pasquale and Caterina, his sisters, Maria and Rosina and his beloved granddaughter, Angela D'Ambrosio. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Teresa (Matarazzo) and three children, Caterina (Francesco) Mancuso, Angelina D'Ambrosio and Pasquale Trombetta. Luigi was deeply loved by his seven grandchildren, Cecilia Mancuso, Teresa (Daniel) Erb, Linda (William) Connolly, Lucia Mancuso, Frank (Michelle) D'Ambrosio, Teresa (Cole) Mortellaro and Louis D'Ambrosio. Luigi also has seven adoring great grandchildren who were the light of his eyes, Vincent, Rocco and Natalie D'Ambrosio, Isabella and Sofia Erb and Amelia and Eva Mortellaro. Luigi fought in WWII and was a POW in Johannesburg, So. Africa for several years. There he learned to speak a little English. Still in Italy are two brothers, Francesco (Rosa) Trombetta and Vincenzo (Felice) Trombetta and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Prayer on Wednesday morning at 9:00. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of The Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00.
