Obituary For Mark Peter Hanna

Age 63, recently of Henderson, NV and formerly of Pittsburgh (Whitehall), PA on Saturday, December 26, 2020. He was born in Waynesburg, PA to the late Michael D. and Katherine M. (Plesh) Hanna. A graduate of The Kiski School in 1975, Mark went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1979 and his Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University School of Law in 1982. Mark began his working career with his father and three siblings in their four family owned businesses. He became an accomplished lawyer, fiduciary income tax return preparer, and the go-to “bond guy” in the family’s insurance business. In addition to his professional degrees and pursuits, Mark was a self-taught computer master in which he had few equals. Mark was famous for hosting the annual “Pig Out” of his closely-knit group of college friends usually occurring on the weekend closest to “Groundhog Day” and always involving much homemade pizza, many Twinkies and much good laughter with those friends, who want to add “We’ll all be seeing you later Ace.” Mark loved to cook and following the passing of his mother, became the family’s provider of homemade Syrian bread, homemade Kibbe and his renowned “Mac & Cheese,” emphasis being on the cheese part. Mark had his constant companion, his dog Wally, forever at his side. When Wally eventually crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, Mark was fortunate to find another loyal and loving companion in Harvey, having driven with his sister Patty round trip all the way to Michigan to get him. Mark spent much of his free time with Patty, and as avid sports fans attended Penguin hockey games and watched the Steelers, Pirates and OSU Buckeyes play on television. Las Vegas became their favorite sports destination, and what began as an annual trip became a three-times-per-year trek and eventually their home in 2019, joining their sister Gerri and her husband. Mark is preceded in death by his niece Amy and is survived by his three older siblings, Michael D., Jr. (Jan), Gerarda A. “Gerri” (Bill), Mary Patricia “Patty,” his niece Ashley E., his loving dog Harvey, a few aunts and uncles and many cousins. Due to capacity restrictions, visitation on Thursday, January 14, 2021 will be limited. Please contact the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 for details. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Resurrection Parish, St. Thomas More Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Gulf Tower - 707 Grant Street - 37th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 at Mark's request.
