Mary Alice (Herman) Kozar

July 18, 1932 - July 14, 2020

Obituary for Mary Alice (Herman) Kozar

Days before her 88th birthday, Mary Alice passed away peacefully at Sunrise Senior Living-Upper St. Clair after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s Dementia. She was the beloved wife of Elwood Kozar for 67 years and was the cherished mother of Sharon Kozar (Tom Delorie) and Richard (Julie) Kozar. As a grandmother, she was adored by her five grandchildren: Jamie (Brad) Heagy, Andrew (Corrine) Kozar, T.J. (Jamie) Delorie, Brian (Lindsay) Kozar and Kali (Matt) Mullen. In recent years, she was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Ella, Grayson, Harrison and Charlotte. A graduate of St. Wendelin High School, Mary Alice worked for several law firms in Pittsburgh before completing her work career at Mackintosh-Hemphill on the South Side of Pittsburgh. Her retirement years brought much happiness as she spent time with friends, neighbors, and family, especially her grandchildren. She and Elwood were avid travelers and had the opportunity to enjoy many trips in the US and abroad. She will be missed but now rests with the angels. Family would like to thank everyone at Sunrise Senior Living, Gateway Hospice and Country Meadows for their love and support over the last few years. Due to the Covid-19 virus and county regulations, viewing and services will be private. However, a Mass of Celebration and gathering of friends will be scheduled at some point in the future. Arrangements entrusted to the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation Western PA, 575 Lincoln Ave. #101, Bellevue, PA 15202 or the Jubilee Soup Kitchen, 2005 Wyandotte St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
