It is with love, respect and admiration that we celebrate the life of Mary Elizabeth (Kubiak) Herzberger. Born on December 24, 1949, Mary Beth was the loving daughter of Richard and Mary K. Kubiak. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother, John “Jay” Kubiak.

A devoted and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Mary Beth's compassion and willingness to do anything for those she loved were hallmarks of her character. She is survived by her son Vinnie (Mia) Bywalski; grandchildren Alexander, Maximilian and Aria; sister-in-law Maggie Kubiak; nephews Jason (Stephania) and Joey (Lisa) Kubiak; niece Jillian Kubiak; great nieces Kayla Doyle and Brooke Kubiak; and great nephew Brendan Kubiak.

Mary Beth devoted over 30 years to the Pittsburgh Public Schools, where she left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students. Her dedication and commitment to education were evident in the many lifelong relationships she built with her colleagues and students, many of whom stayed in touch with her, reflecting the profound impact she had on their lives.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday, October 29, 2026 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of Mary Beth’s caregivers at Hillman Cancer Center, whose compassionate care and support helped her navigate challenging times in recent years.
