Obituary For Mary Ellen (Hamilton) Murphy

Mary Ellen (Hamilton) Murphy

Age 73 on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Mary Ellen is lovingly survived by her children, Tracy Cardello, Brien (Jill) Murphy and Kimberly (Stefen Bourg) Murphy; her grandchildren, Sean Michael, Lauren, Kyle and Bennet; and former spouse, Francis "Mick" Murphy. She also leaves behind her siblings, Regina (John) Kealey, William (Margie) Hamilton, Richard (Monica) Hamilton, Patricia Hamilton, Robert (Karen) Hamilton, Thomas Hamilton and Dennis (Noelle) Hamilton; her brother-in-law, Joseph Schanck, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sophie Hamilton, her sister Kathleen Schanck and son-in-law Michael Cardello. Mary Ellen will be remembered, and greatly missed, for her vibrant love of life, positive energy and can-do attitude, which was embraced by all whose lives she touched. Mary Ellen’s generous and kind spirit was known and felt by many. She always said goodnight by saying “Happy face in the morning!” and that is exactly how she started each day… with a smile. She devoted her free time to Brookline Community Center and Resurrection Parish and was a dedicated employee of Canevin High School and the Diocese of Pittsburgh. She also spent many years working Penguin games and other events at the arena, where her concession stand was a fan favorite. Mary Ellen was an avid lover of Bingo, the casino, scratch-offs and the daily lottery. She loved spending time with her family during the holidays, vacations at the beach and getaways at Wheel-In-Campgrounds. Most of all, she cherished her brothers/sisters weekends. She will be missed beyond words, but her contagious positive spirit will live on in all that knew and loved her. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Thursday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Mary Ellen's family suggests donations to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Regional Office, 1000 Liberty Ave., Room 1606, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
