Obituary For Mary Ellen (Tavis) Krakovsky

Age 81, of Brentwood, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 13, 1942.

Beloved wife of Harry Krakovsky for 59 years; loving mother of Henry (Kirk Johnson), Andrew (Lynnel Krupitzer) and Martha (Rob Campana); cherished grandmother of Ashley (Jesse Puccio), Lindsay, AJ, Julia, Mark, and Luke; great-grandmother of Sophia, Dean, Rocco, JJ and Kingsley. Also survived by her sister Elizabeth "Liz" Luffey, her sisters-in-law Shelley Tavis and Mary Ann Salopek and brother-in-law Bill Hughes along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Preceded in death by her mother Evelyn Tavis, her father Walter Tavis, her sister Catherine Hughes and her brother Joe Tavis as well as three brothers-in-law John Krakovsky, Jack Salopek, and Bill Luffey.

Mary spent a lifetime of love with her husband and her family always enjoying a good laugh and large family parties. She was extremely artistic with her drawing, sewing, painting and crafts. After retirement from several different careers, including dentistry and banking, she spent time singing in the St. Sylvester Church choir, rescuing feral cats and caring for her deck flower boxes. Her warmth and style will never be forgotten.

Friends can be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:15 at John F. Slater Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers: donations can be made to, Humane Animal Rescue, 1101 Western Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233 (Humaneanimalrescue.org).

    We have wonderful memories of Mary and her kindness. She was a wonderful neighbor. We enjoyed being in choir with her and shared many happy times there. We will keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
