Obituary For Mary LaVerne Doyle

March 12, 1928 - January 12, 2015

Doyle, Mary LaVerne (Ryan) of Whitehall, formerly of Brookline, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 12, 2015 at age 86. LaVerne's favorite pastime was spending time with her family. From Steeler Sundays to summer days around the pool, she spent most days surrounded by her doting children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Cards, bingo, LCR - she loved to play games with her friends and family, but only if there was money on the line. "We don't play for funsies" was one of her infamous phrases often repeated in our family. A widow at 38, she was a dedicated mother to her six young children, no matter the challenges that she faced. She was the matriarch of our large family, she was our everything. She will be missed every day. She was the loving wife of the late John "Jack"; mother of Mary Pat, Jack, Dan (Sharlene), Kevin (Patty), the late Thomas "T" (Carolyn) Doyle, and Connie Storino (Rick); grandmother "Gram" to Danielle Hunsicker (Greg), Tara Grahovac (Erik), Jamie Baumgart (Bob), Bridget Doyle, Tawnya Baier (Rob), Marissa Luznar (Mike), Jackie Messenger (Allen), Ricky Storino, Thomas Doyle, and Tory Storino; and great-grandmother "GG" to Christian, Connor, Sophia, Keira, Dylan, and Annie. She is survived by her sister, Betty Gogarty, and loved by so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Angels Place, 2615 Norwood Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15214.

Dear Doyle Family, My wife Boulong and I want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all! LaVerne was always so warm, welcoming and gracious to both of us. I recall the kids being very excited to spend time at Grandma Doyle's house for games and fun! We regret that we can't be present for her services but are thinking of the entire family in your time of loss. Love, Mark and Boulong Farrell
