Mary Louise “Mary or Mary Lou” (Bertell) Shorts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2026, joining her husband, family, and friends who have passed before her. Mary Lou loved God’s Word and was welcomed by the angels who have carried her to Jesus. We are blessed to have her love and company for more than 91 years. Dear wife of 36 years to the late Ronald “Ron” K. Shorts; beloved mother of Frank Mundy and Dan Mundy (Julia Qiu); loving grandmother of Connor Mundy; stepmother to Ron’s six children, Debbie, Ron, Kathy, Beth, Don, and Dan and his 14+ grandchildren and their families. Born on December 6, 1934, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Oscar and Katherine (Wazenegger) Bertell; sister of Ruth Beseny, William "Bill" Bertell and the late June Marquette, Howard and Fred Bertell. Also survived by 12+ nieces and nephews and was loved by all. Mary worked in the Brentwood School District in administration, supporting several Elementary and High School principals. She then worked within the Insurance business in various roles, including Office manager. She also managed administration at her husband’s US and Intl project sites during their many years of travel. Mary would sooner take care of others before letting others take care of her. She loved her private Sunday services at home, watching church TV programs every Sunday from morning to night. Her laugh was infectious and loved getting together with girlfriends to tell stories about days of old and watching the old 1940’s-1960’s comedy movies. She was also a true patriot and loves her country. Mary’s life follows Corinthians 13 and Love of Family, Friends, God’s beauty in nature and her beloved pets. She loved feeding the birds, squirrels, deer, turkey, and other wildlife that visited at her last home. She was well cared for at her last home - Residence at Whitehall and personal thanks to management, staff, and caregivers, and friends who she made while living there - passed and present. Also special recognition to the staff and wonderful nurses, doctors, and chaplains who comforted Mary at her last place of rest at Allegheny General Hospital, showing compassion, and respect through her passing to the angels and Heaven. Friends and family will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be held.
