On Wednesday, December 28, 2022 the stars shone a little brighter as heaven received a new angel, Matthew "Matt" Mittelmeier. Matt passed peacefully, surrounded by family, friends, and members of the Emmaus Community. He is now reunited in heaven with those he loved including his parents Alvin and Dolores (Sis) Mittelmeier, aunts, uncles, and friends. Matthew is survived by his sisters Judy (Bob) Sproat, Terry (Fran) Carik, Diane (Bill) Wilson, Cynthia (Chris Curtis) Mittelmeier, his brother Mark (Diane) Mittelmeier, 3 Aunts (Helen Miller, Lillian Poljak and JoAnn Miller), 13 nieces and nephews and 22 grand-nieces and nephews, his housemate and a dear friend, David, and the entire Emmaus Community team, including the Direct Support Professionals, staff, residents, volunteers, and Board Members. Matt's generous heart was always matched with his contagious smile. He enjoyed socializing, bringing joy to everyone he met. He cared deeply for his parents and took great pride in helping them. He loved life and was always up for a party. He relished celebrating with family and friends, traveling (especially light houses), eating out, bowling, Pittsburgh sports, professional wrestling, trips to the family camp, Special Olympics and participating in events with the Emmaus Community. After attending Saint Anthony's school for Exceptional Children, Matt spent 22 years working at a local grocery store. Then, at Goodwill he worked at disassembling computers for salvageable parts alongside a dedicated job coach. After Goodwill, he attended the day program at Chartiers Center. Matt's final chapter closed with 12+ wonderful years living with the Emmaus Community in a lovely Mount Lebanon home. Matt will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family would like to thank the Emmaus Community and UPMC Family Hospice for their loving and compassionate support. Friends will be received at the John F.
