Obituary For Melanie Eleanor Kolsun

March 26, 1927 - July 10, 2014

Kolsun, M. Eleanor Age 87, of Pleasant Hills, on Thursday, July 10, 2014.

She was the daughter of Elmer and Melanie Hastings, born and raised in Philadelphia and was married 62 years to her late husband, George J. Kolsun. She attended the Wharton School of Business and was employed by Atlantic Refining and Sun Oil prior to her marriage. After raising her three children, she returned to work for State Farm Insurance for 17 years. Known to her friends as "El", she was a devoted wife, mother of three and an avid life long volunteer. Chief among her volunteer activities were zone messenger during WWII, Girl Scout Leader, Phenott's Civic organization and a multitude of activities at St. Elizabeth Grade and High School, where her children attended. She was an active member of the St. Elizabeth Seniors and assisted at the VA Hospital each month as George played the keyboard. George's retirement enabled a continual travel schedule filled with cruises, exotic destinations and of course lots of enjoyment with their three children and six grandchildren. El is survived by her children Dr. G. David Kolsun (Alisa Rohrbaug) of Lancaster, PA, Melanie Diane (David) Labrozzi of Newtown, CT and Debra Lynn (Dennis) Hottel of Bethel Park, six grandchildren, Nicole, Jason, Kristin, Zachary, Creighton and Melanie, and her sister Nancy Nicas of Charlotte, NC. El's family invites friends to visit Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. Funeral Prayer on Monday morning at 10:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 11:00. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA. If lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to the Veterans Breakfast Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing veteran's stories, 200 Magnolia Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15228.
