August 19, 1937 - October 19, 2016

Yawny, Melvin P.

Age 79, on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, of Brentwood, formerly of McKees Rocks. Beloved husband of 57 years to Grace M. (Donalies) Yawny; loving father of Alex (Rose) Yawny and Stephanie Meijer (Chris Kohler); cherished grandfather of Alex, II and Shelby Yawny, Austin and Caroline Meijer, Everly and Noah Kohler; son of the late Leon and Josephine (Kulczycki) Yawny (Proprietors of Yawny's Bakery); brother of the late Olga (Duke) Dukewich; uncle of Walter (Collette) Dukewich and Paula (Fr. Michael) Kochis. Also survived by loving brothers and sisters-in-law of the Donalies family. Melvin served in the Marine Reserves and was a 50 year member of the Freemasons Dallas Lodge No. 231 as a 32nd Degree Mason. Mel enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing and baking family recipes for weddings and gatherings. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a blessing service will be held on Monday morning at 11:00. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
