Obituary For Michael Cavataio

Age 87, of Brentwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Barnishin) Cavataio; loving father of Frank P. (Suzanne),Michael, Jr. (Kathleen), John V. and the late Thomas P.; cherished Nonno of Vincent (Evelyn) Victor (Kaylee), Julia (Tommy), Michaela, Sophia, Vivian, Victoria, Samantha and Miranda; brother of Josephine "Pina" (the late Domenic) Longo and the late Pietro (Maria) Cavataio and Vita (Sebastian) Barbera. Michael was born in Campofelice di Roccella, Sicily, immigrated to the U.S. at age 15 and was raised in Oakland. He worked in the construction industry from age 18 until retiring at age 58 from Local #1058. Mike enjoyed gardening a wide variety of fruit trees and vegetables. He was most proud of his fig trees. He was a self taught builder and mechanic and could fix anything. In his later years, his biggest joy was his grandchildren. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 3-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:45.     Kim and I offer our deepest condolences on your Dad's passing. I spent a lot of time at the house developing a friendship with you 4 brothers. Your mother and Dad always welcoming but to be honest, I was a bit scared of them. Lol. Anyway I only got to realize how nice of people they are in my adult years working with DTP. Again my heartfelt prayers are with the family.
